Umbrella For Two
listen to it
(Esther Ofarim & †
Chaim Topol
sang it in the BBC show "It's Topol", 1968
and in the
"Just Esther" show,
1968)
(Whistling Intro)
Esther:
Oh, lucky me,
I thought I'd see a movie!
Oh lucky me,
so I hurried into town.
Chaim:
Oh, lucky me,
she never reached the movie!
Suddenly we both could see the rain was pouring down.
Esther:
Oh, lucky me,
for I had no umbrella!
Oh lucky me
this morning it was fine!
Chaim:
Oh lucky me,
I thought I ought to tell her:
"Come take my arm, and shelter under mine!"
both:
Stuck together under one umbrella,
we're singing in the rain,
and dancing 'round the town.
Stormy weather brought us both together,
we're lucky for us though
the rain was pouring down!
Esther:
Oh, lucky me,
too late to see the movies!
Chaim:
Oh, lucky me,
there's a great in all this queue!
Esther:
Oh, lucky me,
who wants to see the movies?
Seems to me I'd rather be with somebody like you!
Chaim:
Oh, lucky me,
'cause we were free to wander
down rainy streets,
with nobody in sight.
Esther:
Oh, lucky me!
The lightning and the thunder
made me afraid
Chaim:
and so I held you tight.
both:
Stuck together under one umbrella,
we're singing in the rain,
and dancing 'round the town.
Stormy weather brought us both together,
we're lucky for us though
the rain was pouring down!
Oh, lucky us,
the rain that had been fallin'
all went away
just as quickly as it came.
And if we walked
'till nearly early morning
you and me would both agree
the weather was to blame!
Esther:
I said: "Goodbye,
and thanks for your umbrella!"
Chaim:
We didn't ask if we would meet again.
Esther:
Somehow I knew ...
Chaim:
... I did need to tell her
both:
Each time it rains,
we'll both remember when.
both:
We were stuck together under one umbrella,
we're singing in the rain,
and dancing 'round the town.
Stormy weather brought us both together,
we're lucky for us though
the rain was pouring
both:
(spoken)
"Wasn't it a marvellous weather?"
A big thank-you to Andreas
Eibach for transcribing
it!
